Total Active Hub

Goal
Volunteer my design expertise to assist individuals in becoming more physically active. The goal is to encourage people to engage in personal or team challenges that lead to enhanced health, fitness, mental resilience, and self-discipline.

Problem Statement
A startup sought UX and UI guidance to create their platform, empowering companies to implement a solution that facilitates both individual and team workforce fitness challenges.

To design and provide guidance on the user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) of a worldwide platform aimed at helping businesses promote physical activity and foster long-term employee health.

What does success look like

A design system featuring components accessible to all team members

Quick wins that clients desire, such as 'cheers' and the ability to 'follow' other users

Creating a seamless experience for users to integrate Strava or Garmin into the app.

Research
Total Active Hub contacted me for UX and UI design assistance with their product.

Understanding their startup budget constraints, I volunteered my expertise because I genuinely believe in their mission - to get people active!

The platform was in need of a complete redesign, necessitating a comprehensive overhaul. This entailed a brand refresh and a fresh, cohesive appearance for both the storefront and the platform itself.

Process

Design System

I had the task of creating a design system and brand guidelines, which I named "the kit bag."

This involved a comprehensive brand makeover encompassing elements like colours, component design, fonts, form fields, interaction styles, and more. To ensure its continuous improvement, I organised regular team workshops.

This approach allowed us to maintain a constantly evolving, accessible reference document for both the founders and developer.

Collaborate
Collaborate closely with the developer to guarantee accurate design implementation, offering assistance and clarification whenever necessary throughout the development process.

Component Design
Creating component designs to enable the construction of a single element for consistent use throughout both the shopfront and platform.

Wireframes
Create wireframes along with the UI based design system for the developer to build a new shopfront and platform.

Development and Implementation

User Feedback
Actively seeking feedback from users using the platform through the desktop or app. Using in-app surveys and direct emails.

Iterative Design
Collaborating with the founders and developers on an ongoing basis to translate product concepts into detailed wireframes and user interface solutions.

User-Centered Approach
Throughout the process, continually remind the team to focuse on the needs and preferences of the customers. Making the app more user-friendly and aligned with their expectations.

Iterate and Improve

Product Backlog
Consistently prioritise and refine a comprehensive product backlog, giving special attention to implementing "quick wins" that businesses desire, including features like "cheers" and the ability to "follow" other participants.

Design Enhancement
Iteratively enhancing all aspects of the system, with a particular emphasis on optimising the sign-up forms for a swift and seamless registration process.

Streamlining the integration with Strava, Garmin, and Fitbit accounts to ensure users can easily link their data is a key priority, aiming for the simplest possible process.
